Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2

8.80TV10 eps2026Finished Airing

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 continues one of the most loved fantasy anime of recent years. Madhouse again made the show. This time Tomoya Kitagawa is the director, taking over from Keiichiro Saito, who led the first season. The ten episodes aired in Japan from January to March 2026. The story comes from the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and drawn by Tsukasa Abe. The manga has won major prizes, including the Manga Taisho award and the Shogakukan Manga Award, and has more than 35 million copies in print. The series starts where most fantasy stories end. A group of heroes has already beaten the Demon King after a ten-year quest. One of them is Frieren, an elf. Elves live for many centuries, so ten years felt very short to her. Decades later, her old friend Himmel, the leader of the group, dies of old age. At his funeral, Frieren cries and realizes she never really took the time to know him. She sets out on a new trip to learn about people, and to reach a far northern place where, legend says, the souls of the dead rest. There, she hopes she might speak with Himmel once more. She does not travel alone. Fern is a young woman who was raised by Heiter, the priest from the old hero group. Fern became Frieren's apprentice, and she is serious, skilled, and sometimes a little strict with her lazy teacher. Stark is a young fighter trained by Eisen, the dwarf warrior from the old group. He is very strong but often scared and unsure of himself. The three act almost like a small, odd family. In this season, the group has finally earned the right to travel through the dangerous lands of the far north. That region has been off limits to most travelers. It holds hard terrain, powerful demons, and tough monsters. The new fights give Stark a chance to grow and to find courage in his role as the one who stands in front to protect the others. Fern keeps treasuring the small presents and kind acts of the people who raised her. Frieren, as always, thinks back on moments from her past travels with Himmel and the others. Through these memories, the show quietly shows how much she has changed without noticing it herself. Frieren is known for its calm and gentle mood. Many episodes are quiet: the group visits a village, helps someone with a small problem, or collects strange spells, such as a spell that makes flowers bloom. Then, suddenly, there will be a tense and beautifully animated battle with a demon. The show is often called "iyashikei," a Japanese word for stories that feel soothing and healing to watch. Its main themes are time, memory, and grief. It asks how we should treat people when our time together is short. This season is meant to be watched after the first one. A third season has already been announced for October 2027.

A Wild Last Boss Appeared! Season 2

7.10ONA2026Currently Airing

A Wild Last Boss Appeared! Season 2 continues the dark fantasy isekai anime that first aired from October to December 2025. (Isekai means a story where someone from our world ends up in a different world.) The show is based on a light novel series written by Firehead and drawn by YahaKo. It began as a free web novel on the site Shosetsuka ni Naro and was later printed in nine volumes by Earth Star Entertainment. In English, J-Novel Club publishes the books and the manga, and Crunchyroll streams the anime. The new season is made by the same team as before. The studio is WOW WORLD, the director is Yuya Horiuchi, and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu plans the story for each episode. The season has 12 episodes. It started streaming early in Japan on ABEMA and U-NEXT on September 26, 2026, and it began airing on Japanese TV on October 3, 2026. Here is the setup for anyone new. In an online game called Exgate Online, one top player used a character named Lufas Maphaahl. Lufas was a winged ruler so strong that she became the game's final boss, the last and hardest enemy. After the player let Lufas lose on purpose to other players, a strange offer appeared. The player accepted it and woke up inside Lufas's body, two hundred years after her defeat. The world of the game had become real. The person inside is a man from our world, now living as a powerful woman, which adds some light humor to the story. In this real world, many people remember Lufas as a cruel tyrant, and most are scared of her name. At her side is Dina, a friendly but mysterious helper who travels with her. Lufas decides to find her old servants, the Twelve Heavenly Stars. These are very strong warriors, each named after a star sign, such as Aries or Libra. Over the long years they have been scattered across the land. At the same time, the world faces danger from the Demon Lord Orm and his army. The second season picks up this journey where the first season ended. Lufas keeps searching for her lost followers and learning what really happened while she was gone. She also looks deeper into the secrets of the goddess Alovenus, who is worshiped by the people of this world. Viewers who liked the first season can expect more big fights in which Lufas shows her huge power, along with slow reveals about the history of the world. What makes the series stand out is its hero. Instead of a weak newcomer who grows stronger, the main character is already the strongest being around. The fun comes from watching someone with a scary reputation try to act fairly, win back old friends, and figure out who is pulling the strings behind the scenes. The mix of overpowered battles, mystery, and a gender-swap twist gives it its own flavor among many isekai shows.

JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1

8.60TV12 eps2026Finished Airing

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is the start of the Culling Game, one of the biggest story arcs in Gege Akutami's hit manga. Studio MAPPA made it, and Shota Goshozono directed it. The season aired in Japan on MBS and TBS from January 9 to March 27, 2026. It has 12 episodes, and the first two aired together as a one-hour special. King Gnu sings the opening song, "AIZO," and Jo0ji sings the ending song. Crunchyroll streams it outside Asia, with an English dub as well. This season covers only the first half of the arc, and a second part has already been announced. This season picks up right after the Shibuya Incident from Season 2. In this story, jujutsu is a kind of magic. Jujutsu sorcerers use a power called cursed energy to fight cursed spirits, which are monsters born from bad human feelings. In Shibuya, things went very badly. Many people died, and the strongest sorcerer, Satoru Gojo, was locked away inside a magic prison. Japan is now full of danger, and the old rules no longer protect anyone. The villain behind all of this is Kenjaku, an ancient sorcerer who is using the body of Suguru Geto. Kenjaku starts a deadly contest called the Culling Game. It takes place in closed-off areas across Japan called colonies. Many people suddenly wake up with new powers, and some sorcerers from long ago come back to life. All of them are pulled in as players. Players earn points by fighting, and there are strict rules. Players can add new rules, but that costs points. The game will not end on its own until almost everyone is gone, so the heroes must find a way to stop it and free Gojo. Yuji Itadori, the main hero, carries the curse king Sukuna inside his body. He feels deep guilt about the many deaths in Shibuya, so he stays away from the jujutsu school. Instead he hunts cursed spirits with Choso, a strange ally who now treats Yuji like a little brother. Meanwhile, the jujutsu leaders decide that Yuji must be put to death after all. They send Yuta Okkotsu, a very powerful special-grade sorcerer, to do the job. Yuji's friend Megumi Fushiguro also has his own reason to fight: he needs to protect his stepsister Tsumiki, who is caught up in the game. The season is dark and full of action. It feels a bit like a battle royale story, where many fighters with different goals clash in the same place. New characters and strange powers appear in almost every episode, and the fights are big and fast, as fans of MAPPA's animation expect. At the same time, the story keeps asking hard questions about guilt, duty, and what a person owes to others after a disaster. It is a violent show for older viewers. Since this is the third season, new viewers should watch the first two seasons and the movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 first, because the story builds directly on them.

Owarimonogatari Second Season

8.90TV7 eps2017Finished Airing

Owarimonogatari Second Season is one of the last chapters of the long Monogatari series. The studio Shaft made it, with Akiyuki Shinbo and Tomoyuki Itamura among its directors. It aired in a special way: all seven episodes were shown on Japanese TV over just two days, August 12 and 13, 2017. Each episode is about 22 minutes long. The story comes from a light novel by the writer Nisio Isin. In the anime timeline it comes after Koyomimonogatari, and it is followed by Zoku Owarimonogatari. The word "Owari" means "end," and this season really feels like the end of an era. It belongs to the Final Season part of the franchise, which wraps up the high school years of the hero, Koyomi Araragi. Koyomi is a third-year student who once became partly a vampire. Since then, he keeps getting pulled into cases about "apparitions," which are ghosts, spirits, and strange beings that grow out of people's worries and feelings. He tries to help everyone he meets, even when it puts him in danger. The season is made of three stories. The first is "Mayoi Hell." After a meeting with Izuko Gaen, a woman who says she knows everything, Koyomi wakes up in an empty and strange place. There he meets an old friend he never expected to see again: Mayoi Hachikuji, the ghost girl with a big backpack from earlier seasons. Their talks have always been funny and warm, and fans are happy to see them together on a new adventure. The second story is "Hitagi Rendezvous." It is much calmer. Koyomi spends time with his girlfriend, Hitagi Senjougahara, who is sharp, honest, and sometimes scary. Many viewers think of this part as a sweet break, because for a while it is mostly a date. But the time they spend together also helps Koyomi look back at his past and his present. The third story is "Ougi Dark." It centers on Ougi Oshino, a mysterious student who says she is related to Meme Oshino, the expert on apparitions from earlier stories. Ougi is calm, polite, and very hard to read. She seems to know things about Koyomi that even he does not know. In this arc, Ougi makes Koyomi an offer, and his search leads him toward a truth about himself that was kept hidden. This is where many long mysteries of the series come together, so it is best to avoid spoilers before watching. Like all of Monogatari, this season is driven by talking. Characters have long, clever conversations full of word games and ideas about life, love, and who we really are. The art is bold and stylish, with sharp colors, unusual camera angles, and flashes of text on the screen. The story is also told out of order, jumping between times, which fans enjoy putting together. It mixes comedy, mystery, romance, and the supernatural. The season is one of the best-rated parts of the franchise. On MyAnimeList it holds a score of about 8.86 from over 200,000 users, and the Ougi Dark episodes got the highest episode ratings. Many fans see it as the true finish of Koyomi's teenage story. It is made for viewers who already know the earlier seasons.

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth

8.60TV25 eps2024Finished Airing

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth is a historical drama anime about science, faith, and the danger of new ideas. It is based on the manga by the artist Uoto, which ran in the magazine Weekly Big Comic Spirits from 2020 to 2022 and was collected in eight books. The anime was made by the studio Madhouse and directed by Kenichi Shimizu. It has 25 episodes and aired on NHK in Japan from October 5, 2024, to March 15, 2025. Netflix streamed it around the world. The story takes place in the 1400s, in a European country called the "Kingdom of P." In this time and place, the Church controls what people may think and learn. Ideas that go against Church teaching are called heresy, and people who spread them can be tortured or burned to death. At the time, almost everyone believes that the Earth sits still at the center of the universe, and that the Sun and stars move around it. The opposite idea, that the Earth moves around the Sun, is called heliocentrism. In this world, even studying it is a crime. The first main character is Rafal, a very smart young boy. He is so bright that he is about to skip ahead at university. Everyone expects him to study theology, the study of God and religion, because it is the most respected subject of the day. Rafal is good at saying what adults want to hear, and he plans a safe, successful life. But then he meets a strange man who has been studying the sky in secret. This meeting pulls Rafal toward a forbidden question: does the Earth really stand still? The series is told in an unusual way. It moves through time and follows several different people who become linked to the same dangerous research. Characters such as Oczy, Badeni, Jolenta, and Draka each play a part. Against them stands Nowak, a Church inquisitor, an official whose job is to find and punish heretics. Because the story keeps changing who it follows, no one feels fully safe, and the tension stays high. Orb is less about action and more about ideas. Characters argue about truth, beauty, belief, and what makes a life worth living. The show asks why people would risk everything just to know something real about the world. It can be dark and sometimes violent, with scenes of torture and cruelty, but it is also hopeful about human curiosity. The music by Kensuke Ushio helps create a calm but heavy mood that fits the slow, thoughtful story. The manga has been very successful and well-loved. It has sold more than 5 million copies, won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2022 and the Seiun Award in 2023, and came in second for the Manga Taisho, a major Japanese prize chosen by bookstore workers. The anime was nominated for Best Drama at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. It is a good pick for viewers who enjoy history, big questions, and stories that make you think long after the episode ends.
